ok i'm stealing this from andrea...partly because i haven't updated in a while and this looks fun and partly because i'm avoiding homework.

1. Pick 15 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. NO GOOGLING! or using IMDb search functions or using social networking sites.

1. "You know what word I'm not comfortable with? Nuance. It's not a real word. Like gesture. Gesture's a real word. With gesture you know where you stand. But nuance? I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong."

2. "Magnificent. The boy is gone. In the last 30 seconds...you became a grown-up."

3. 'Do you have anything diet? I'm 99.9% parched and I sure could use a cola."

4. "I didn't get a chance to talk to you before; you got me stoned too quick. But I'm OK now. I'm just drunk and therefore brave."

5. "Who came up with this ridiculous concept anyway? Resolve your entire life in one bold stroke? What if I fail? And I will. I'll fail. I'm telling you. I always fail. Then my whole life will be a complete failure."

6. "You know there's something called a nicotine patch."
"I don't need a nicotine patch. I smoke cigarettes."

7. "You look good wearing my future."

8. "Call me old fashioned, but I don't believe it to be appropriate to have sex with a woman who is unconcious."

9. <strike>"I'm a fucking idiot because I can't make a lamp?"
"No. You're a genius because you can't make a lamp."</strike> Casey Walsh, The Breakfast Club

10. "No, thanks. I'm off sex right now."

11. "<strike>Not that I condone fascism, or any -ism for that matter. -Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in The Beatles, I just believe in me." Good point there. After all, he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. I'd still have to bum rides off people."</strike> Blair Elizabeth, Ferris Bueller's Day Off

12. <strike>"It's sandwich day. Every Thursday I take Pudge the fish a peanut butter sandwich...And today we were out of peanut butter. So I asked my sister what to give him, and she said "a tuna sandwich". I can't give Pudge tuna! Do you know what tuna is?"
"Fish?"
"It's fish! If I gave Pudge tuna, I'd be an abomination! I'm late because I had to go to the store and get peanut butter 'cause all we have is... is... stinkin' tuna!"
"Why is this so important to you?"
"Pudge controls the weather."</strike> Andrea, Lilo & Stitch

13. <strike>"I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don't want to do that."</strike> Katie Harkin, Say Anything

14. "So, were you the bitch or were you the butch?"

15. <strike>"I've never bagged a babe. I'm not a stud."</strike> Casey Walsh, Sixteen Candles

sorry some of them are kind of long.
i got partway through this and had to go to class, so it took me...7 hours to finish this. :D

it's monday! which means i'm coming home in 5 dayyyss!! i'm pretty damn excited. unfortunately it also means i'll only be home for a week but i plan to see everybody i love anyway. (i'm also going to 3 doctor's appointments and a haircut so if you need to have your eyes checked, your teeth checked, your regular body stuff checked or your hair cut and would like to come with me, we can hang out and be oddly productive at the same time!) after i'm home for a week i'm going back to school which i have mixed feelings about.

i decided not to go back to marching band because as much fun as the people are, it stresses me out a little too much and paul's a big bag of douche. most of the time anyway. so i'm taking four classes, all in the horticulture department which is partly exciting and partly terrifying. exciting because they're major classes so they're what i'm mostly interested in. and terrifying because they all have lectures and labs/activities. it just seems a little scary right now.

today and tomorrow are probably your last chances to send me mail as post here takes forever, so take advantage!!
74 lambert's cove rd
vineyard haven, ma 02568

:D miss you!!

i haven't updated in a while so i thought i'd say hi while i wait for the bus.

i'm sure that i've previously promised to elaborate on things that i've said but since i didn't go back and look at those i can't promise anything.

i'm at the end of week six (i switched days off for this week so i have a computer today, but i'll be away from one until tuesday or wednesday) so that means i'll be home in 4 weeks and back at school in 5. today the interns from the arnold arboretum in boston (or near boston...?) came here to see the PHA and go to the beach (there were 14 of them...there are two of us here and i was the only one working today...). next tuesday we're going there, leaving on a 6:00 ferry to Wood's Hole and then to the arnold and probably spending most of the day in/around Boston. but i don't know, plans still seem pretty fluid. i'm working on my own project in the greenhouse and i'm looove it. i want a greenhouse. it's definitely a big part of making this such a good experience for me.

it's been super hot here. actually probably high 80s to mid 90s but the humidity makes it seem a lot worse. the other day in the greenhouse it was 110.

i hope you're all having fantastic summers!!

Don't knock it til you've tried it.

i've tried it, i will now proceed to knock:

earmuffs parading as ear protection. if you're going to call yourself ear protection you should do something to actually block out the noise. something other than sitting on my ears.

mowing all day in the sun. it makes your hands all numb and stupid from the vibrations. thank god for dads and gardeners.

inhaling mower trimmings.

sitting in a car waiting for the over 21s to get back from the bar and the under 21s to finish drinkng in the gazebo without stairs that they had to scale the side of to get into.

if i get a chance after work i'll try to post details. otherwise i'll be back at a computer probably on monday. have a good weekend. i might try to make some calls and say hi.

miss you.

hellooo. the computer is being really slow so i'm doing this quickly so i can catch the only bus that goes back to west tisbury.

how are you all?!?! the computer slowness has not allowed to check all you ljs so i don't know if you're all posting or what. so sorry if you've already updated me. i'll read it on monday when i have a computer again.

yesterday was an eventful day for me. i took an outdoor shower (it's all closed in. shower stalls and all that) which was interesting. didn't love it, didn't hate it. i'm sure i'll do it again. and then i went on a scavenger hunt for a boat that leia saw a while ago and wanted to find and get into the lake with. we found it. it floats. we used shovels as paddles. we'll be better prepared next time.

more when i have more time!

as good (yeah, just good so far) a time as i'm having, i do miss people that know me.

send love!
hellooo!

i got a library card so now i can get on the internet whenever i feel like going to the library. and there's a computer at work that i can use during the day but not for any long amount of time. how are you all?!

i started work yesterday and i just got off work today. and i'm exhausted. i rode my bike 6 miles yesterday after work and it wasn't too bad. the hills are awful, even the small ones right before i get back to hoft farm (where i'm living) but i guess it could be worse. i figured out how to take the bus to work in the morning and back in the aftenoon but i'm probably going to bring my bike with me nearly everyday anyway. my co-worker, jon, seems pretty nice. he's from vermont. and my roommate is val, she's from new york state. gotta go get books before the bus comes! (reading is exceedingly more fun when i don't have to do a certain number of pages per day). you all should write me letters. but you'll have to ask for my address as this is visible to the entire world and i'm not fond of stalkers. send packages too.

one more thing about boston. dunkin donuts are so much worse there than starbucks at home. seriously one at least every block and a half, no exaggerating. and they have ones that are drive-thru only, no store at all. people should start getting on their case instead of ours.

love ya!

i'm here! we got to the vineyard after a long stressful drive. missed our ferry but were able to get on the next. i unpacked all my stuff and we went food shopping for me. we're going to run some last minute errands before dinner and then my parents leave tomorrow morning. i'm a little afraid to be here by myself. but also excited.

p.s. i've been using internet at hotels but now i'm really not sure when i'll get another chance. there are computers at the library and at work but i don't know when i'll be able to use them.

miss you guys!

oh! and i have a some sporadic good cell phone signal so you can try to call if you want. just don't forget that i'm 3 hours ahead of you. :D

hellooo. how is everybody?

tomorrow (well...tonight) i fly out to boston. i'll be there for a couple of days before i go over to the vineyard. my first night on Hoft farm will be saturday and my first day of work will be monday. i'll work sunday-monday normally and monday-friday my first week. i fly back september. i'm definitely going to try to write postcards (i won't have anything to send regular letters in but i might be able to send a few) so if you want one let me know, and if you want one and i don't have your address then give that to me too.

i probably won't have regular internet access but i'm not sure so i'll try to say as often as possible, i'll probably check my e-mail about once a week. cell phone service on the vineyard isn't supposed to be very good but i guess i'll find out when i get there.

that's all, i'll check this once tonight before i leave so i can get addresses and such. see you in september!

miss you guys!

9:30 Polly Hill Arboretum interview
went pretty well, 5 people on the speaker phone talking to me. not as bad as i thought, i actually don't remember the whole thing because i was so nervous. i do remember that one lady asked what my favorite tree was (redwood) and then laughed and said 'that's a very california answer.' it was kinda funny. they should decide by or sometime during next week.

11:00 Washington National Cathedral
not really an interview-more of them telling me what the position and gardens are like. not so much actual interviewing. not that i'm complaining, i'll take any chance i can to get out of an interview. but they're not deciding until april 13.

i'm feeling very conflicted.

tomorrow morning i have two phone interviews at 9:30 and 11:00. polly hill arboretum first, then the washington national cathedral. and lotusland is going to decide by the end of this week. i'm trying not to get ahead of myself but i only need one...if just one of them could want me...

but right now i need to concentrate on writing some stuff down so i'll have something to look at and remind me that i'm not a nervous babbling idiot while they interview me. i'm freaking out a little. or...a lot. whatever.

giants baseball starts in 14 days.

Comment and I'll give you a letter; then you have to list 10 things you love that begin with that letter. After, post this in your journal, and give out some letters of your own.

My letter is: P (from Casey)

1. pie
2. purple
3.
i'm trying not to get too excited because they want me to start 2 weeks before i can actually start...but it's a good sign!
(i'm such a good english student, i even added the ellipses)

thanks for being nice to me you guys.

Dear Melissa,

Upon review of your application we have decided we’d like to arrange a time during which we can conduct a telephone interview...Please list your times as local, Pacific times – I’d hate for there to be confusion and awaken you at 4 AM expecting you to have coherent answers to our questions! Thank you, and I’ll look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Tom
The Polly Hill Arboretum
West Tisbury, MA 02575

today i melded two rods of glass together because the red one was getting too short to hold. and then i started to make a pendant and i reached for it to pull out a couple stringers, but i forgot it was hot and i wrapped my pinky right around the newly fused part. i could feel it blisterm my whole arm kind of shievered. the top two parts got that instantly callused kind of burn and the bottom is super blistered and hurts constantly. i think this is the most minimally concentrated physical pain i've ever felt.

ok i think i'm going to start making pendants for birthdays. no promises but leave a comment with favorite colors and i'll see what i can do. matt (the student instructor) taught us to do tubing so we can do these really cool sea anenome looking implosions and honeycomb but i'm a little afraid of tubing so i haven't done it yet.

ok this a flower implosion marble. it's mostly round, it has a flat spot at the bottom so that's why it sits up like that, and the tops a little lopsided. it has a couple bumps on it because i was kind of in a hurry/tired of it so i didn't polish them off. but all in all a very good first marble effort.

from the side

from the top

ok this is the fugly one. i started to make an implosion marble with dots in it but it wasn't working so i decided to make it into a really fugly pendant. and i wasted a lot of red covering the back (which i didn't take a picture of...because again-it's fugly). but it's ok because it's not a very good red-it burns out, which you can see at the top where there's no color.

i feel like it looks better in these pictures than it does when i'm holding it, maybe i'm just biased.

pretty one! not too hard, kind of a simple one, but i luuuve it.

and one for size, because i realized after taking pictures that they looked the same size, the clear one is only a little bigger than a dime, like half the size of the fugly one.

btw my camera's not that good so some of them are kinda fuzzy. you should all pool money and get me a good one. or just convince my parents to get me one. ignore the first suggestion, concentrate on the second one.

i miss you guys.
